The Foundation is calling for the next government to prioritise lung health for this generation and the next. Successive reports on the impact of respiratory health on New Zealanders have found extreme inequity, this finding is also backed by other research including Cure Kids' State of Child Health reports. In November 2015 we launched the National Respiratory Strategy. The Strategy is an action plan that outlines what needs to be done to improve respiratory health across all levels from government agencies to community organisations.
There is still a long way to go to address the respiratory health inequities for Māori and Pacific populations, and to improve the overall high rates of respiratory illness throughout New Zealand.
